About Amesti Elementary
In the rural outskirts of the city of Watsonville, at the foot of the Redwood forested Coastal Mountain Range in Central California, Amesti Elementary School is located in the fertile Pajaro River Valley (The River Valley of the Birds) - one of the eleven watersheds of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
Agriculture (strawberries, raspberries, olalliberries, apples, artichokes, brussels sprouts, lettuce, and flowers),tourism, microelectronics, education, and wetlands and marine research employ many of the families in the Amesti community.
Amesti is a kindergarten through 5th grade public elementary school, with a diverse multicultural and multilingual student body of almost 650. Our community actively engages the rich cultural, linguistic and artistic resources of our Hispanic, Filipino, Portuguese, Italian, Yugoslavian, Japanese, Afro-American, Caucasian and Native American heritages.
Pajaro Valley is further enhanced by its cultural and technological exchanges with San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and several major universities and research institutes.
Amesti's kinder, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades are staffed at a ratio of 20 or fewer students to one teacher. We have a strong emphasis on Language Arts and Literacy Development, including writing across the curriculum. We offer Bilingual and Structured English Immersion programs. Hands-on inquiry and exploration in Art, Science and Technology provide content and focus for development of literacy and math skills in our newly remodeled classrooms.
